A film in Tréhorenteuc
British clapper
An Anglo-Saxon film crew has taken possession of the area around Tréhorenteuc. A feature film is in preparation.
A soft-top car with a licence plate from the other side of the channel makes its way through the roads around Tréhorenteuc. No, these English are not training for a rally but are in the middle of making a film. Just in front of them is a mini bus with the boot open. It is there that they have placed the camera. In the car is Jonnie Hurn, lead actor and screenwriter of the film and Julie Dray, the only French actress in the cast. The two lovebirds in the scene are giving their lines under the direction of director Paul Hills.
The first time that Jonnie was in Tréhorenteuc it was with his partner “We were going into the forest of Brocéliande and she told me about the legends”. After that everything went very quickly. The invention (of the story), the writing, the meeting with Paul Hills at the Cannes Film Festival. “It is based on a true story. It was my partner who inspired the character of Malika, played by Julie Dray. She appears and disappears in the life of Callum, my character, like a fairy. No longer enjoying his work she is a liberating burst of fresh air”, confides Jonnie.
Love and magic
The ancient legends of the region will not be forgotten. “There will be magic and fairy-like passages.” The Tréhorenteucians have been invited to participate in the film in their own way. A small casting session was held in September to find a missing actor : a Breton Spaniel. The film crew have made an appeal for volunteers to help in the moving of equipment or in the filming. The 16 people of the crew will be present until 20th (sic) October. The main part having been shot in England already.
Following that the longest and most delicate part will begin. Editing, mixing, scoring the music, it is 6 to 8 month job that awaits the team. In the end “Do Elephants Pray?”, a production of 95 minutes, will be released in October 2008 “throughout the world, we hope.”
